Owen Sound Marine & Rail Museum

Education & School Programs

Current Programs

education booklet coverTouring our Museum is an educational experience for people of any age. You will be made aware of the Owen Sound and area marine, rail and industrial history. Your Museum experience will develop historical and geographic inquiry. Visitors will leave realizing, appreciating, and valuing the importance of preserving the history and growth and development of our area by means of industry, shipping, and railway artifacts.

Through curriculum-based materials, the Owen Sound Marine & Rail Museum School Program will assist schools in a concrete, practical context through a Museum experience and learning activities, to develop students’ historic and geographic inquiry skills. Students will utilize oral and written language, math, and artistic mediums as they study:

  • Historical transportation (marine,rail,etc.)
  • Geography: Natural Resources, Transportation & Local Industry
  • Early Communication and its’ role in Historical Transportation

Other tools incorporated into all programs will build:

  • Mapping skills
  • Research skills

Make it an all day Educational Experience!

Why not consider a day outing and visit the Billy Bishop Home and Museum as well or the nearby Tom Thomson Art Gallery. This would be a cost saving idea for schools outside our local area who are travelling by bus.
