Black History & Geographic Inquiry Programs

Grade 7 - 8

We discuss Canada’s involvement in the underground railway.  This program also includes the five themes of geographic inquiry and patterns of migration as escaping slaves came to settle in Ontario.  Students create a coded poem or song to guide people along the underground railway, and find historic sites on a map of Owen Sound.

Grade 7: The Themes of Geographic Inquiry

Explain the geographic concept of Place, Region, Interaction, Movement and Environment

  • Create and use maps for a variety of purposes

  • Regularly use vivid and/or figurative language and innovate expression in their writing
